Making sure that Canadians have Warm Feet
The goal of this initiative is to be able to fill local homeless shelters with more socks than they will need for the 2021-2022 winter.
Socks are one of the most crucial items in homeless shelters, and with the extreme Canadian temperatures during the winter, we can only imagine the need here is even greater.
This initiative first came to life when Sheilah Lee Restall came up with the idea for the sock drive and broached the idea with Laura Hofmeister, who was immediately on board! Since then, the two have been mapping out a plan to success, including how to organize and execute their initiative during the COVID-19 pandemic. In their first year of running (2020), the project was immensely successful bringing in over 20,000 pairs of socks for Winnipeg. We now hope to take that success and do it again in 2021, while also bringing in other provinces!
Warm Feet is organized by The Restall Foundation, a non-profit organization.
